The stretch from Mirigama to Kurunegala of the Central Expressway would be vested with the public on January 15, Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday.

“The section from Mirigama to Kurunegala covers 40.91 km of the Central Expressway. Constructed avoiding townships and urban areas minimising the impact on the environment, this four-lane stretch has been identified as the most beautiful section of the country’s expressways,” the Minister said.

“The section had been constructed as the second phase of the Central Expressway using local funds by local contractors at a cost of Rs 137 billion. The 40.91 km stretch has five interchanges with toll counters at Mirigama, Nakulugamuwa, Danbokka, Kurunegala and Yaggapaitiya,” he added.
