Cop attached to security details of State Minister shoots tipper truck driver to death

• The police arrested the constable along with his weapon

A tipper truck driver was killed when he was shot dead by a police constable attached to security details of State Minister S. Viyalanderan in Batticaloa last evening.   

Police Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said the incident took place opposite the State Minister’s residence.  
He said the State Minister was not at his residence when the incident took place.  

The police arrested the constable along with his weapon.  The Senior DIG said that it was revealed that there was a dispute between the deceased driver and the constable a few days ago.  

The spokesman said a special police team had been deployed to conduct further investigation into 
the incident.
