Countries must refrain from provocations - Ranil tells Chinese envoy

While claiming that countries must refrain from provocations which further escalate the current global tension, President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the Chinese Ambassador in Colombo that Sri Lanka is committed to one-China policy. 

He also said Sri Lanka is committed to uphold UN Charter principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.


“During a meeting with H.E. Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of China, I reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm commitment to the one-China policy, as well as to the UN Charter principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.” Mr. Wickremesinghe said in his Twitter message.


“Countries must refrain from provocations which further escalate the current global tensions. Mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries are important foundations for peaceful cooperation and non-confrontation., Mr. Wickremesinghe added.


This assurance comes from Sri Lanka amidst a tense situation in the Indian Ocean with the expectancy of a Chinese ship for which India has expressed its concern.
