Maintaining an uninterrupted supply of electricity has become extremely challenging today, with the dilapidated power supply capacity in the electricity grid. Amidst all major constraints and challenges, the construction work of the 350 MW Sobadhanavi Power Plant has been in continual progress. Presently, it is the only major power plant under construction and the only large-scale plant to be established in the country after the lapse of several years. Timely completion of this power plant is essential to overcome the current crisis in electricity generation sector.
The first phase of the project will generate and contribute 220 MW to the National Grid, while the second phase will add a further 130 MW. The plant will irradiate Sri Lanka with a total capacity of 350 MW over the next two years.
Sobadanavi Limited is the developer and Lakdhanavi Limited is the engineering design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance contractor of the upcoming power plant. Total development cost of the project is around USD 220 million. Lakdhanavi Limited, which is a subsidiary of LTL Holdings Group, is an industry leader synonymous with the construction of qualitative and feasible power plants since 1996, in Sri Lanka as well as in South Asia, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal and the Middle East as well as East Africa.
