Police have recovered the body of the 32-year-old Danish  woman Karen Munk who had gone missing while hiking on the Alagalla  Mountain in Kadugannawa.

The Police and the STF launched a search operation yesterday after the woman had gone missing while hiking since last Monday.

Police said the Danish woman may have fallen from the mountain while hiking.

The woman who arrived in the country on June 24 had been  visiting important places in Kandy from July 01 to 09. She had  reportedly checked into the Kandy Backpackers Hotel on July 9.

Investigations revealed that she had informed the hotel  management that she was going on a hike on Monday and when she had not  returned to the hotel at night last Tuesday (11) the management had  informed about her disappearance to the Kandy Tourist Police.

Investigations revealed that the tourist, after reaching  the summit of the mountain had attempted to change over to the other  side of a rock called Sinhagala on the top of the mountain, which was a  risky undertaking, and fallen into a land in the Rambukkana Police area.

Rambukkana Police are conducting further investigations.
