New electricity connections had come to a standstill as a result of the current FOREX crisis, an SJB MP said yesterday.

SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha talking to the press said new electricity connections have come to a standstill as there is no way of importing wires and other accessories needed for new connections due to the unavailability of dollars to pay for the import of these materials.

“ It has become impossible to get new power connections today while a number of other industries have also been affected as establishing letters of credit( LC’s) have become a difficult task. The Government may say it is capable of illuminating houses even without power when one considers the assurance given at the SLPP rally in Anuradhapura where it was assured that the lifestyle of farmers will be enhanced irrespective of the availability of fertilizer,” the MP said.

Meanwhile the MP said the government should consider a favourable solution  to the health workers as their demands are reasonable. They  have made lots of sacrifices during the pandemic.” The SJB is ready to back the health workers to win their demands,” he said.
