Rahul Gandhi disqualified from Indian Lok Sabha

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was yesterday disqualified as a member of India’s Lok Sabha, a day after being convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment in a defamation case filed over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the foreign media reported.  

The foreign media reported that the notification disqualifying Rahul as a lawmaker was issued by Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh.  

Earlier during the day, Rahul Gandhi attended Lok Sabha proceedings. He also attended a meeting of party lawmakers before the House proceedings started, reports our New Delhi correspondent. Congress Parliamentary Party Chief Sonia Gandhi was also present during the meeting.
