Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake who was released from prison is to be appointed as a member of Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) working committee and will be considered as a member of the party’s parliamentary group, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.

“ People’s hero Ramanayake will be made a member of the SJB working committee and a member of the SJB parliamentary group. He will also spearhead the anti corruption effort of the SJB.,” Premadasa said in his Twitter message.  However Minister of Labour Manusha Nanayakkara said Ramanayake has been appointed as a goodwill Ambassador who will look after interests of Sri Lankan expatriate workers.

The appointment letter was handed over to Ramanayake at the minister’s house in Madiwala over the weekend.
“ I don’t need a position to look after the interests of Sri Lankan expatriate workers and I will continue to do so in the future as well. However the position I have been given will help me to carry out my welfare work for Sri Lankan expatriates officially,” Ramanayake told media.

“ I am grateful to Ministers Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando as they began a campaign to get me released when some in the SJB said my imprisonment was not a national issue,” he added.
