Sputnik V vaccine supply hindered due to spike in Covid cases in Russia

The supply of Sputnik V Covid -19 vaccines has been slowed due to the spike of cases in Russia warranting the manufacturer to meet the increasing local demand , a Minister said yesterday .  

A dispatch of 50,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines was to be delivered last night. Besides , a similar amount was expected next week .  

However , State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana told Daily Mirror that Sri Lanka expected much larger consignments of vaccines from Russia than the dispatches made so far , but the Covid -19 cases and fatalities had surged there .  He said Sri Lanka had sought 14 million doses from Russia.  Sputnik V is manufactured by Gamaleya Research Institute of Russia .
