Train accident claims life of motorist

A motorcar hit the Colombo- bound Intercity Express from Kandy on Thursday evening (15) near Yagoda Railway station in Gampaha on the main line. The driver of the motorcar received serious injuries and died at the scene.  Police said the motorcar that haphazardly entered the level crossing had bumped against the moving train.   

The driver of the motorcar who died in the incident was a 43-year-old individual from the area. The motorcar had been wrecked and rendered useless.   

The motorcar was dragged onto the centre of the platform in the railway station. The train service on the main line was subject to delay due to the incident.   

Ganemulla Police are conducting further investigations.
