Faldo Series Sri Lanka tees off at RCGC tomorrow

  • The Faldo Series Sri Lanka, powered by DFCC Bank will be hosted by the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) from January 7 to 9. As part of Sir Nick Faldo’s globally recognised development initiative, the event provides a platform for young golfers to compete at the highest level and gain international exposure.

This is a great initiative by the RCGC and the DFCC Bank to prop up as sponsors bringing the series and the fastest-growing sport, golf, to Sri Lanka. “As the leading golf club in Sri Lanka, RCGC is proud to host the prestigious Faldo Series International Junior Golf Tournament in Sri Lanka,” RCGC, Captain, Amrith de Soysa told the Daily Mirror.

“As a club, we recognise the importance of nurturing young talent and providing a platform for the next generation of golfers to excel. We are fully committed to fostering the growth of the sport in Sri Lanka, and this event is a testament to our dedication to shaping the future of golf.”

“I thank DFCC Bank for partnering with us by signing a three-year agreement to ensure this tournament has continuity. Look forward to internationalization of golf in the country with the Faldo Series and hosting in 2026 and 2027. Wish all the junior golfers the very best.” The Junior Tour will feature a 54-hole WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) event, attracting top young talent. Already more than 110 entries have been received, with 15 overseas golfers registered already, which shows the importance of this tournament in Colombo.

The winners from each division will earn an exclusive invitation to the Asia Grand Final at Laguna Lang in Vietnam, a coveted opportunity for aspiring golfers to compete in an international stage.

The age segments are: Boys’ 13-16 and 17-21. Girls’ 13-16 and 17-21.

Meanwhile, designed for younger golfers, the Faldo Futures will focus on skill development and fostering a passion for the sport through a 27-hole format over three days. The winners from each division will secure an invitation to the Faldo Futures Final at The Belfry, England an iconic golfing venue renowned worldwide. The age segments are Boys’ 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. Girls’ 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. DFCC Bank, Chief Executive Officer, Thimal Perera said: “We are honoured to power the Faldo Series in Sri Lanka.
