Former rugby star Rizwie Suhayb no more

Former S. Thomas’ College, CR and FC and Kandy SC centre three quarter, Rizwie Suhayb passed away after a brief illness. 

The late Rizwie led the Thomian rugby outfit in 1989 to claim the double championship, winning the League and the President’s Trophy Knock-Out final against Isipathana College.

His team included some star studded players including the De Saram brothers, Sundar Niranjan, Sajith Gunaratne, Dilshard Anzari, Harin Perera, Reza Marjan, Jeevantha Jayathilake, Sanjeewa Saranapala and Mark Ratnayake. 

The late Rizwie also captained the Sri Lanka Under-20 Rugby Team for the tour of Thailand. After leaving school he represented the CR and FC till 1991 before shifting to Kandy SC playing in the 1992 Clifford Cup winning outfit under Maurice Joachim. 

The late Rizwie’s Janazah took place today at the Jawatte Muslim Burial Grounds.
