Nilfer tipped to coach SL Men’s rugby outfit

Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Navy SC and national player plus Head Coach of Police SC and St. Joseph’s College, Nilfer Ibrahim is tipped to take over as the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Team for the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy 2024, which will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal on October 4 and 5.

The Sri Lanka Men’s Sevens Pool has been already selected by Sudath Sampath and his Selection Committee after 40 players were shortlisted.

The majority of these players will feature in the Mercantile Rugby Sevens, which will be worked off at the end of this month at the CR and FC Grounds in Longden Place.

Meanwhile Zahira College Head Coach, former national player, Shamly Nawaz is tipped to take over the Sri Lanka Women’s outfit, which will lock horns in Nepal.

In addition, the Sri Lanka Boys’ Under-18 Team will play in Johor Bahru in Malaysia on September 28 and 29 with Rajiv Perera tipped to take over as the Head Coach.

If the Sri Lanka Men’s and Women’s outfits end on top in Nepal they will qualify for the Asia Sevens Tournament third leg in Thailand, which will take place in November 2024.
