Sri Lanka’s pioneering multi-chain healthcare provider, Hemas Hospitals, attracted local and international recognition for its groundbreaking advancements in the delivery of cutting-edge healthcare services, securing awards in quick succession at three separate awards events in recent weeks.
Commencing with the prestigious Asian Hospital Management (HMA), Asia Healthcare Excellence Awards 2016 taking place in Vietnam last August, Hemas Hospitals won recognition for excellence in ‘Innovation in hospital management and governance’. The award was given to Hemas Hospitals in recognition of its groundbreaking implementation of its latest project: ‘Reaching the Pinnacle of Hospital Management through Business Intelligence (BI), Balance Scorecard, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)’s and Strategic Cost Management’.
International recognition for its efforts continued into the month of October when Hemas Hospitals was conferred with the ‘Innovation in Quality of Service Delivery Award’ in the Healthcare Management category of the most recent South Asian Partnership Summit & Business Awards (SAPSBA). The SAPSBA is a prestigious international award honouring leaders, companies and organisations around the South Asian region working to strengthen and increase economic opportunity.
Organised in partnership with the World HRD Congress and endorsed by the Asian Confederation of Businesses, the award ceremony drew participation over 200 senior industry leaders and policymakers from across the South Asian region including leading figures from the Sri Lankan government.
Hemas Hospital also managed to sweep National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence Awards 2016 (NOSHE) recording wins in three categories in recognition of its outstanding achievements in maintaining and improving upon workplace safety standards.
Organised by the Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations along with the Department of Labour and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the NIOSH Awards saw Hemas Hospital Thalawathugoda walk away with an award in the Large Business category as a result of its top-quality occupational health and safety standards for its employees. This is the first instance that a hospital has been received such an award.
Hemas Hospitals Wattala was awarded with the special achievement award of ‘Systematic Hazard Identified Organisation’ recognizing its risk identification and mitigation process and Dorine De Souza was awarded with special achievement award for ‘Outstanding Line Manager for Safety’. This instance is the first time that a hospital has won an award.
“We are extremely pleased to have been given such wide-reaching recognition for our efforts in transforming Hemas Hospitals into Sri Lanka’s best, internationally accredited healthcare provider. By focusing on quality and innovation, we have been able to drive sweeping improvements in terms of our treatments and facilities and throughout our administrative and governance processes.
“The combined result of this approach continues to yield dividends while steadily raising standards within the Sri Lankan healthcare industry as whole and ultimately we believe that it is our valued patients and the wider Sri Lankan public who will benefit from these initiatives over the medium to long term,” Hemas Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris explained.
A subsidiary of the Hemas group, Hemas Hospitals is a multi-specialty hospital chain operating three full-service hospitals in Wattala, Galle and Thalawathugoda in addition to 36 fully-equipped laboratories. Providing community-based expert healthcare services in strategic locations outside of the country’s main commercial hub, Hemas Hospitals has consistently raised standards in the domestic healthcare industry and was the first Sri Lankan hospital to secure international accreditation from the prestigious Australian Council for Healthcare Standards.
