Bill Lisle, Regional CEO AIA Group and the Chairman of AIA Sri Lanka was amongst the top industry leaders to address the first national Human Capital Summit held in Colombo recently. It was tasked with inputting into and identifying the human capital needs and opportunities to support Sri Lanka’s economic growth sectors, as outlined by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe in his opening keynote address.
Bill Lisle presented insights on Human Capital development in Financial Services from an Asia regional perspective, drawing on AIA Group’s nearly century long experience and presence across 18 markets in Asia. “We have seen people in Sri Lanka embracing the emergence of new technologies. We believe the country’s adaptable employee mindset is one of the many strengths we can further develop to enhance the capabilities of the local workforce” he said. Summing up his perspective, Bill Lisle concluded, “We also see greater opportunities in re-skilling the workforce for the job market, developing execution capabilities and focusing on female employability.
We look forward to seeing increasing collaboration between the government and the private sector in strengthening Sri Lanka’s human capital.” The Summit brought together thought leaders from many local and international spheres and their exchange of ideas are to form part of a National Human Capital Road Map to bridge skill gaps and build a future ready, globally competitive workforce. It is a public-private initiative led by the Government supported by HR Councils, Employers’ Federation and several international development partners.
