SLASSCOM holds sixth People Summit

The sixth consecutive SLASSCOM People Summit, organised by the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) HR Forum, was held recently at Cinnamon Grand Colombo. 

The focus of this year was to provide some key human resource (HR) insights and perspectives to the industry leaders to guide them through 2016 and beyond. The sessions evolved around facing today’s challenges with novel approaches that make HR more agile, forward thinking and bolder.
FranklinCovey Sri Lanka was one of the strategic partners of the Peoples Summit and FranklinCovey South Asia CEO Sri Lanka and Maldives Ameer Ahmed shared the new insights on ‘Leading across generations’. 

This workshop was held in the afternoon for participants from the HR fraternity, business leaders and managers from the corporate world.

The insight of this workshop specifically titled for the audience as ‘Unleashing the potential in a multi-generational culture’ was focused on how to tap into the unique contributions of all four generations - traditional, baby boomers, Generation X and Generation Y (who are also referred to as the millennials).

Ahmed also shared some of the best practices and the word-class training from FranklinCovey on how to understand the specific differences between the generations in today’s work place and how leaders could cover these differences to unleash the true potential.  

The key insights are of threefold, which are: understanding the generational differences, resolving the points of friction and engaging the whole person. In today’s knowledge economy, it is important for us to understand the key differences in the generations which automatically lead to many points of friction in the working environment. These are very similar to the challenges we face even in our family environment in our day-to-day life.

Without acknowledging these differences and resolving the same, it will be difficult to unleash the talent in a multi-generational culture. This is the challenge we face in the ever changing environment today.
