SLDF interior design exhibition presents future tropical modernism

The Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) annually presents a powerful platform for design and related industries in Sri Lanka. 

With an internationally-curated exhibition that is freely open to the -public, and mini-conferences involving global speakers and local architects, SLDF looks to create a hotspot of progressive energy to push forward Sri Lankan interior design with new knowledge, education, fresh talent and new advances in tech and creativity. SLDF interior design exhibition and the associated series of talks will be held from 4th to 6th November at SLECC.
Hosted under the theme ‘Future Tropical Modernism,’ SLDF’s interior design agenda will pay homage to one of the worldwide trends. SLDF 2016 will present how this style evolves into the modern times as an international trend that has a special significance to Sri Lanka. 

The original style fused traditional Sri Lankan and Colonial architecture—reflecting pools, colonnaded passages and terra-cotta-tiled roofs—with the modernist emphasis of flowing spaces and clean lines accommodating Sri Lanka’s balmy climate by blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. 
In this setting , SLDF sets out to highlight Future Tropical Modernism to allow the local interior, homeware and furniture industries, interior architectural professionals and students as well as the interested general public to experience the modern take of one of Sri Lanka’s most treasured creative legacies.
SLDF interior design exhibition brings together some of the country’s leading brands in homeware, furniture, colour, furnishing, product design lighting technology, colour, special finishes, porcelain/bathware, homeware, hotelware and fabrics. 

This vast collection will be individually curated into designer spaces and unique installations. Simultaneously, the exhibition is also a platform to visiting international designers, all united under the theme ‘Future Tropical Modernism’. The event will have curated spaces by collating elements of tropical style with contemporary design with a mix of cold and warm materials, industrial and vegetation depicted through lighting, shadows and textures displaying major worldwide trends in interiors.  SLDF interior design exhibition aims to share a new living ideal from Sri Lanka, which characterises the spirit of the island within a contemporary context. The exhibition not only aims to inspire the general public and interior design/architecture students, but also provides a fantastic platform for those in the business such as property developers, design firms, architectural studios, real estate agencies and property owners looking for modern Sri Lankan design to meet designer studios, service providers, home brands and interior supply chain. 
Parallel to the exhibition, the festival will also host interior design talks featuring a mix of international and local speakers, to share interesting viewpoints and new knowledge on Future Tropical Modernism with students, professionals in interior design and architecture, as well as those interested from the general public.

In addition to the exhibition, SLDF also aims to contribute to the growing body of interior design knowledge by hosting a mini-conference on interior design as part of its talk series ‘Design Katha’. 
The session is set to feature some remarkable speakers from both local and international industries and targets an audience of design students, young educators and general interior enthusiasts.
This inspiring new take on tropical modernism at Sri Lanka Design Festival will see some of the island’s most distinguished hoteliers, hospitality and tourism industry veterans as part of its specially invited audience while remaining freely open to the general public at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) throughout 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th November.
