The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has welcomed Acuity Stockbrokers Sri Lanka Assistant Manager Equity Research Samalka Athuraliya, as its 100,000th member.
Reaching this milestone, CIMA confirms its position as the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants.
Samalka began studying the CIMA Professional Qualification after completing her A-level examinations in 2009. She completed her studies in 2011 and with subsequent work experience, has now received the Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and Global Chartered Management Accountant (CGMA) designations.
She has worked for Acuity Stockbrokers since June 2015, performing sell-side equity research and analysis. Prior to this, she spent three years working in equity research for Copal Amba. She also has audit experience, having worked for B.R De Silva & Company in this capacity between 2011 and 2012.
Samalka said, “I’m so pleased that I’m now a CIMA member and a CGMA. The syllabus was challenging but very rewarding and with hard work, I was able to complete my studies within two years.”
She continued, “It was through studying CIMA that I was able to discover what I wanted to do for a career and the qualification has given me the skills and knowledge that I need as a financial analyst. I would recommend CIMA as a really good opportunity for anyone looking to develop their career in business.”
CIMA President Myriam Madden said, “CIMA is delighted to have reached this milestone today, demonstrating our global reach and our commitment to nurturing diverse talent. Management accounting is the only discipline which brings together all the information businesses need to take decisions and drive sustainable success and we are proud to be supporting members around the world in this profession. I would like to congratulate Samalka on becoming a member and commend her for the dedication and effort she has shown.
A few years ago CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) established the CGMA designation to further elevate the profession of management accounting. Samalka is joining not only our now 100,000-strong CIMA membership base but the wider body of 150,000 CGMAs globally. We look forward to supporting her throughout her career as a CGMA.”
