IPM Sri Lanka - the nation’s leading professional body for human resources management (HRM) - organised the ‘HRM for Life’ evening seminar recently at the Regent Ballroom, Earl’s Regency Hotel in Kandy, followed by cocktails and dinner.
The resource person for this event was the renowned HR and management personality Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri. The ‘HRM for Life’ evening seminar in Kandy followed close on the heels of a similar well-attended event held in the southern coastal town of Galle.
The panel discussion that was held after Dr. Dharmasiri’s presentation comprised of panellists Elkaduwa RPC and SLSPC Chairman Neil Bogahalanda, IPM Sri Lanka Vice President C. Gannile and IPM Sri Lanka Council Member Major General Rohan Kaduwela (Retd) provided additional thoughts and ideas on HRM and related matters.
The event helped to redefine the perception about HRM as a profession while creating and enhancing awareness on HR development and its importance amongst the key decision-makers and business leaders in the Central Province, who were invited to participate in this milestone event.
The seminar, whilst helping professionals or students in any field of management to understand the importance of HRM for their daily lives, was also a platform for exchanging ideas and sharing thoughts. It also provided an excellent opportunity for networking amongst business leaders and the HR fraternity.
The event was ideal for HR professionals and students alike in the Central Province in order to upgrade their knowledge and understanding and witness a rare event in Kandy, which is usually conducted by high calibre HR professionals regularly in Colombo.
Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri is a council member of IPM Sri Lanka and the Acting Director and the Chairman of the Board of Management of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
He also serves as the Adjunct Professor in International Human Resources Management at the Price College of Business - University of Oklahoma, USA. Dr. Dharmasiri was the recipient of the prestigious IPM Lifetime Gold Award 2014, the highest honour for an HR professional in Sri Lanka.
