Amadeus Lanka, a pioneer in implementing systems and software solutions for simplified travel management recently celebrated 20 years of operations in Sri Lanka with an event where fraternities from the travel and tourism industry were also present.
The event, which took place at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo was patronized by Dr. Ankur Bhatia, Director, Amadeus India and Subcontinent.
During the proceedings, Dr. Bhatia highlighted about the success of Amadeus Lanka since the company was launched in the country in 1997 and considered the significance of the 20th anniversary celebrations as a moment to acknowledge all their stakeholders and helping to create a presence in the market with them for more years to come.
The mechanism of solutions provided by Amadeus includes systems aligned towards travel agents who operate via online and offline entities. Amadeus offers an e-commerce platform for airlines, hotels, car rental companies and other providers to become more connected. Online agencies receive APIs and offline agencies receive links directed to their offices or through the internet.
The technology provided herewith is then linked up with the Amadeus Central System. Relevant bookings and issuing of tickets can then be initiated via this platform. Amadeus not only offers a platform for travel bookings but also paves the way for ticketing facilities via the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Currently, Amadeus provides travel technology for all major airlines around the world, covering over 580 airlines in operation globally.
“Amadeus Lanka prides with a market share of over 50 and the company’s next aim is to achieve the 65 percent market share target within the next seven years. Other competitors such as Travelport and Sabre acquire significant stakes in the remaining share of the market,” Dr. Bhatia said.
“Simply put, almost every other passenger that passes through BIA would have been booked through Amadeus. Passengers may not notice it as they happen to be the backend of the system. SriLankan Airlines for example also utilize this technology to book their passengers. Amadeus acquires the line of business with relation to Travel Technology which happens through the airlines where they connect directly with Amadeus and we are responsible for providing this technology to the travel industry,” Dr. Bhatia acknowledged.
