Sri Lanka’s Hatton National Bank PLC is now partnering with local ride sourcing app PickMe to provide PickMe customers with the ability to pay for their
rides cashless.
“Through this alliance with our country’s most preferred mobility platform, we are proud to bring increased convenience to citizens of Sri Lanka. Our effort and support in the drive to cashless transactions is very much a part of our commitment towards digitalization, technology enhancement and accessibility,” HNB Managing Director Johnathan Alles said.
Cashless transactions had been in the open beta testing phase for several months
on PickMe.
HNB Card Centre Senior Manager, Roshantha Jayatunge said that with over 12 million debit card holders and 1.2 million credit card holders in Sri Lanka, businesses could easily convert themselves into cashless systems which HNB is supporting through developments
in digitalization.
PickMe CEO Jiffry Zulfer noted that the convenience of not having to carry around cash is also combined with the optics of not having to pull out a wallet, which perhaps in the case of cars, would give an illusion of being chauffeured around in
one’s own vehicle.
Consumers have to complete a one-time registration process to save their card details on the app, after which they can choose to pay for their journeys with either cash or card.
According to Zulfer the new service was designed using the latest security protocols, in order to safeguard the customer’s billing information.
