The premier ICT exhibition Infotel 2017, organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) was officially launched at a ceremony at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo recently.
The biggest and most prestigious Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exhibition in Sri Lanka and the whole of South Asia, Infotel 2017 will be held from 1st to 4th November at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. The theme of this year’s exhibition will be ‘Towards a Digital Economy’.
A key highlight of the event will be the showcasing of new and innovative products and services and novel ICT solutions by exhibitors in the field, in addition to a series of special features, which will add color to this eagerly-awaited annual happening in Colombo. It will also serve as a lucrative platform for new business opportunities.
Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Ministry Secretary Vasantha Deshapriya, ICTA Chairperson Chitranganie Mubharak, FITIS Chairman Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayakke and ICTA CEO Dr. Ajith Madurapperuma were among gathering present on the occasion.
‘‘As the premier ICT exposition in the country Infotel has now become the much awaited event for all stakeholders in the country. As we continue to upgrade this national event every year we solicit active participation of the local ICT firms in Infotel. It is our collective effort that can make South Asia’s oldest ICT expo, Infotel, one of the most sought after events in the region,’’ said FITIS Chairman Dr. Kithsiri Manchanayakke.
Speaking at the ceremony to mark the official launch of the event, Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Secretary Vasantha Deshapriya said that the theme of the Infotel 2017 exhibition is topical and absolutely relevant in an era where the entire world is swiftly going digital economy. “Information and Communication Technology has not only permeated every facet of our lives, but has also become a critical infrastructure for our economy. We are committed to transforming Sri Lanka into a digital inclusive with opportunities for all. I believe in partnerships, and together, we can bring the enormous benefits of digital technologies to more people, more quickly. However, all this requires the establishment of the supportive environment conductive for innovation and risk-taking, resulting in private sector led ideas and services,” he stressed.
For Future ICT leaders, there will be Career Guidance awareness programme for 500 students and 800 ICT teachers in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka. Student Innovations Pavilion a showcase for university, technical and school innovators, Young Computer Scientists Awards ceremony. For young ICT enthusiasts, there will be 30 gaming booths in an exclusive area.
