Huawei Y3, Y5 smartphones disrupt local entry level market

Huawei, the world’s fastest growing smartphone, announced the launch of two new affordable-range smartphones this month in Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, the announcement goes on to say that through this introduction, Huawei expects to cater to all smartphone market segments including the entry-range, mid-range and high-range in Sri Lanka. The Huawei Y3 is priced at Rs.9,499 and the Huawei Y5 is priced at Rs.11,999, respectively.

Huawei Device Sri Lanka Country Head Henry Liu said, “Huawei is aggressively targeting the affordable range market this year as we are keen to offer all Sri Lankans the best product experience, for the best price and the best service. Huawei Y3 and Y5 products come across a more powerful and a more accessible
entry range smartphone to the local marketplace.”

The Huawei Y3 and Y5 sports strong high-end smartphone credentials have been affordable smartphones. These products will cost much less than the flagship phones of Huawei’s main competitors further pushing the boundary on value-based delivery, given its affordable price tag.

Speaking about the new products launched, Huawei Sri Lanka Marketing Manager Stanley Mascarenhas said, “The Huawei Y3 and the Y5 are purely designed for the local market with innovative features and a simple, elegant look and feel which all smartphone users will appreciate. An advance camera with a dual flasher, long battery life and a unique screen easily gives the device an advantage, backed by the quality service and product availability through the number one smartphone marketer Singer Sri Lanka.”

Huawei Y3 is designed in matte finish with curved edges. It comes with 4.0-inch LCD IPS capacitive touch screen, the resolution is penciled at 480 x 800 pixels. The smartphone is equipped with Corning Gorilla glass, powered by Mediatek Quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. The handset is equipped with a 5MP rear and 2MP front camera with Dual LED flash, autofocus and Geo-tagging, while the front camera is also provided for crisp video calling. Voice command capabilities on the Y3 lets users make calls and compose text messages hands-free.

Huawei Y5 3G sports a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4.5-inch display, 8GB of storage, expandable via microSD, eight-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, two-megapixel front camera, Dual SIM, dual standby, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Android 4.4 KitKat, EMUI Lite and 1730mAh battery.

Last May, Huawei introduced a powerful range of unique mid-market smartphones locally, with features on par with high-end smartphones, namely, the Huawei Honor G Play, Honor 4X and Honor 6 Plus. According to the company announcement more than 10,000 units sales were achieved within only one week. The new affordable Huawei Y3 and Y5 is set to break this record with an aggressive promotional plan in store. Huawei is currently the number two smartphone brand in Sri Lanka and is set to become the island’s number one smartphone brand within the next few quarters. Huawei is marketed by Singer Sri Lanka.
