The National Mobile Service Provider Mobitel renewed a partnership with the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), the pioneer in post-graduate education, to develop new and innovative e-learning methods to provide students the opportunity to follow PIM’s Master’s Degree Programmes through a technologically superior and convenient online education experience facilitated by Mobitel mLearning.

mLearning is the only commercially available online facility in Sri Lanka that allows students to follow a complete university programme while in the country or in any other part of the world, and is exclusively designed and developed by Mobitel to deliver a quality education while catering to a student’s lifestyle.

The programmes offered by PIM provides post-graduate students a unique online experience where lectures and assessments could be followed in a virtual, live lecture room environment in a cost-effective manner, while gaining speedy access to information including recorded lectures through the Mobitel mLearning portal which stores all essential data for the students’ benefit.  Further, students could also use the clear user interface and sophisticated digital whiteboards provided to add value to the educational experience.

With the renewal of the partnership, Mobitel and PIM will collaborate to further explore new opportunities to include additional facilities and features to the mLearning platform to further enhance the scope and quality of the Programmes. One of the main targets of the MoU signed, is to work on a distance learning model to make PIM programs available to Sri Lankans working in the Middle East.

“mLearning is custom made to suit all online learning requirements, and it provides students a distinct advantage in learning, building networks and entering a broader global platform which are all essential to enter the progressively competitive job market. The programmes that we offer in collaboration with mLearning further enhances the opportunity for those who wish to seek or develop their careers,” Acting Director of PIM Dr. Ajantha Dharmasiri commented.

CEO of Mobitel Ranjith G. Rubasinghe sharing his views said, “We are proud to work hand in hand with a prestigious educational body such as PIM yet again and we hope to strengthen our relationship further and provide far greater opportunities for students in future. mLearning offers a unique education experience and has been one of the key initiatives that has maintained our focus in terms of Mobitel’s contribution to post-graduate education. With increased access to information at the tip of our figures combined with the busy lifestyles that students lead today, online education is becoming a globally recognised trend in education.”

‘mLearning’ is a part of Mobitel Business Solutions, a dedicated division that caters to numerous customer enterprise needs. The mLearning facility is now integrated with Cisco Webex, the world’s most advanced web conferencing platform which brings device independency by allowing students to participate in lectures via their PC and mobile devices that run on iOS, Android and Windows operating systems as well as BlackBerry devices.
