Roar.lk launches revamped website celebrating 1st year

Rich content digital platform Roar.lk has launched an upgraded version of its website, as the start-up celebrates its first year in operation.
Set up in July 2014, the new streamlined platform now has content grouped by interest areas. Readers can select from stories focusing on start-ups and initiatives, technology, culture, art, health and lifestyle. In addition, the website has set up a Network Content feature, which will promote local content from other blogs and websites as well.
“Roar has come a long way since we started. In terms of numbers we’ve really exceeded our expectations and have a strong and growing readership, so it’s reassured us of the need for accessible and localised content. Beyond that, there’s far more that goes into just the site. Internally, we’ve had a lot of restructuring and redefining because we’re always trying to innovate and be more creative with how we work around our content. But throughout we always want to keep things clean and minimal on the outside and we’re doing the same with our advertising policy too,” co-founder Munira Mutaher said.
Over the past year, the local start-up has established its presence on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and most recently Snapchat, setting up a live feed to cover local events each week. Roar also now has its own development blog ‘Roar Insider’, giving readers a behind-the-scenes look into the progress of the content-rich start-up.
Offline the company has partnered with initiatives such as the Colombo Design Market in support of local art and design. Roar created an interactive design installation at the latest installation of the Design Market and has also worked closely with Red Bull for several of their events.
Going forward the start-up has ambitious plans of scaling their content geographically and is also looking to introduce compelling photo stories and mini-documentaries into their content mix.
“We are also focusing on a very personal and people-centric section on Sri Lankan identities and looking at user-generated content too. So we’re constantly innovating and discussing how we can enhance this content platform for Sri Lankans,” Munira said.
