Samsung launches Galaxy A8 - slimmest phone to-date

Samsung Electronics Sri Lanka recently launched ‘GALAXY A8’, the slimmest phone of the Samsung family to-date.

“It is the slimmest galaxy on our range which is at 5.9mm” said Kalpa Perera, Deputy General Manager, Mobile division - Samsung India Electronics Ltd.
The fourth model of the Alpha series which follows after A3, A5 and A7 has many special features especially  the design and the metal finish which is the supreme feature of the Galaxy A series.

It carries a full metal body and a metal frame.

Setting yet another benchmark, becoming the first in the industry, it includes a ‘fingerprint scanner’, which expects to enhance security.

Samsung Electronics Sri Lanka, Managing Director, Youngmin Shin told Mirror Business that the new product has a better camera with improved features.
“Normally in a mobile most important thing is the camera.  With this you can get better pictures even in darker circumstances” he said while noting that the design and the camera are key factors for consumers in this price segment.

The phone equips a 16 MP main camera and 5 MP front camera. It has a F 1.9 lens for both the cameras for brighter picture and real time HDR which results in brighter photographs.

The secondary front facing camera has a resolution of 5 MP and boasts of 120 degree wide angle selfies in portrait mode which is perfect for clicking group selfies.

It also features advanced selfie feature including Ultra Wide Shot, GIF shooting modes and Auto Selfie Modes - Palm and Voice Selfie which lets the user to capture attractive selfies in high resolution.

Showcasing optimum eye for detail, Samsung has further reduced the bezel size to 2.5mm, to provide users a more immersive viewing experience with rich colours and greater clarity.

It has a large screen and the device weighs light despite being metal built also features a superior 5.7’ Full HD Super AMOLED display and an adaptive display technology.

The Samsung Galaxy A8’s hardware includes an inbuilt memory of 32 GB which can handle up to  to 128 GB and is powered with a GHz Octa Core processor with 2 GB RAM.

The Galaxy A8 which has rounded edges comes with category 6 LTE which gives even faster uplink/downlink speeds on 4G networks.

Samsung, a South Korean headquartered company, with an annual sales of US $ 196 billion, officially unveiled the Galaxy Alpha on August 13, 2014 which  the company touted that it would mark a new design approach for Samsung’s products. 

The phone will be available in White, Black and Gold and will be available at a price of Rs. 75,990.
