LOS ANGELES, March 27 Reuters - CODA,” a heartwarming movie about a deaf family with a hearing daughter, won a landmark best picture prize at the Oscars on Sunday.
“CODA” also became the first movie from a streaming service, Apple TV+ to win the film industry’s biggest prize. The movie also won Oscars for best picture, best supporting actor and best adapted screenplay.
Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli presented the award to the film, which follows teenage Ruby – who can hear – as she juggles pursuing her musical ambitions with her family’s dependence on her to communicate. Deaf actors feature in several lead roles in the film. Nearly everyone in the audience stood and applauded in sign language, when the awards were announced.
