Picture of Finnish premier prompts discussion on professionalism

DPA, 14TH OCTOBER, 2020 - A picture of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin shot for a fashion magazine has stirred up a social media discussion on professionalism.

Critics say the picture, which shows the politician wearing a low-cut blazer and jewellery, was too revealing and unprofessional for a woman in her position.

The comments were immediately followed by an outpouring of support from social media users, with both men and women posting pictures of themselves wearing similar blazers.

Marin’s supporters charged that women are judged by their appearance much more often than men, citing topless images of Russian President Vladimir Putin and of other male politicians that had not been deemed unprofessional.
