Washington (dpa) 07th APRIL, 2017- The Republican chairman of the House of Representatives intelligence committee is removing himself from the investigation of Russian interference into the US presidential election amid questions about his independence.
Congressman Devin Nunes pointed to allegations filed against him by “left-wing activists groups” with Congress’ ethics officials and said in a statement Thursday that, while the charges were “baseless,” he would step aside. The Ethics Committee announced that it was examining whether Nunes had made unauthorized disclosures of classified information in violation of congressional rules. Nunes’ critics charge that he is too close to US President Donald Trump’s administration.
