 Berlin (dpa), 1 Oct.2017 -
German police said on Saturday that the suspect detained over an extortion scheme threatening to poison supermarkets’ food products has admitted his crime.

He told the custodial judge that he had not poisoned any other products than the ones already known, the public prosecutor and police said in the southern German city of Konstanz.

The 53-year-old from the south-western university town of Tuebingen has already been taken to jail following his formal arrest. He has been charged with attempted extortion.    Police had earlier said the man is an eccentric loner with a history of mental illness.

Local police deputy Uwe Stuermer did not give further details about the man, citing privacy laws. The 53-year-old, earlier listed as 55, was picked up by police late Friday in Ofterdingen, near Tuebingen, after tip-offs from the public.
A possible motive is so far unclear.
