The majority of people in this country appear to believe  in the conventional marriage judging by the contents of the numerous  marriage proposals  advertised in the national weeklies.

In most cases, it is the parents who seek a partner for their son or daughter invariably specifying the preference that the bride or the bridegroom should be from a family of the same ethnicity and caste professing the same religion.

However, there is a growing trend among parents to allow leeway for their sons and daughters to choose a partner  of their choice. Very often young men and young women fall in love these days and later seek the parental consent to tie the knot.

While the inter-caste and inter-racial marriages are on the increase nowadays, yet another unconventional type of marriage  has now entered the equation: marriage with a foreigner.

The trend of local-foreigner marriages  has begun to grow of late , on one hand , with more and more foreigners  visiting the country as tourists, investors, and manpower for the foreign-funded  mega projects and on the other, Lankans securing employment in the mid-east and the developed countries  like the UK, USA, Italy, Germany, and Australia.

Our present purpose is to discuss the astrological factors that lead a local to embark on matrimony with a foreign national throwing all conventions to the four winds.

Vedic astrologers credit the shadow planet Rahu  with causing unconventional marriages, with foreign nationals in particular.  Because Rahu is believed to be playing a very important role in connecting a native  with everything foreign.

In fact, Rahu also plays an important role in timing such marriages. This type of marriage  would take place  either in the major Dasa period of Rahu  or in the Sub-Dasa period of Rahu in the major Dasa period of the lord of the 7th House.

Given below are a few planetary positions that cause a marriage with a foreigner.

nThe lord of the 7th House  is in the 12th House  or vice versa point to a marriage with a foreign national and taking up residence abroad.

nThe lord of the 12th House posited in the 4th House  while being aspected  by Venus or the lord of the 7th House indicate that the subject may live abroad after marrying a foreigner.

nThe lord of the 12th House occupying the 7th House  with the lord of the 7th House signifies marrying a foreigner.
nRahu occupying either the 12th House or the 6th House from the Lagna in the Rashi, Sapthamsa and Navamsa  charts would cause  the native to marry a foreigner.

nThe 12th lord either from the Moon or the Lagna  placed in the constellation of Rahu  would lead to a marriage with a foreigner.

nVenus either posited with or aspected by Rahu  in the 2nd   to 12th position to each other in the Navamsa chart  would indicate a marriage with a foreigner.
