Enjoying its prime position as the new darling of Sri Lankan food in the UK, the humble Sri Lankan hopper seems to be everyone’s favourite food. Available mainly at Sri Lankan restaurants, many are cautious about trying to make hoppers at home as it seems like a delicate task. However, UK based Sri Lankan Rosheana Olivelle, a lawyer by profession has turned her dream into a reality by founding Hop & Roll a street food business which has now expanded to include hopper kits which one can make in the comfort of their own kitchen.

Rosheana was brought up eating authentic spicy Sri Lankan food, and always wondered why this amazing cuisine was not more well known. She went on to master one of the hardest and most iconic Sri Lankan dishes - the hopper - from Sri Lankan cooks. Rosheana couples these with family recipes at her hoppers street food business Hop & Roll which sells Sri Lankan hoppers, short eats, spicy sambals and curries. The business has since expanded into supper clubs and catering for private and corporate events. She does all this while working part time in the legal field and being a mum to  four year old twins!

Not only is Rosheana passionate about Sri Lankan cuisine but she also believes in giving back to Sri Lanka. Therefore she has teamed up with the Amelie and Daniel Lindsey Foundation in the UK to host a Sri Lankan Hopper cook-along.  The Amelie and Daniel Lindset Foundation was started by David Linsey in memory of his siblings who died at the Shangri-La hotel during the Easter Sunday attacks. A frequent visitor to Sri Lanka David through the foundation has helped numerous Sri Lankan hospitals and projects.

This cook-along which will take place on 29th November will be co-hosted by Rosheana who will show viewers who will join in via zoom  the steps to making a hopper and then guide them  in recreating the dish. The event will end with a Q&A session. Each hopper kit contains a hopper pan, specialist spatula, ingredients to make 20 hoppers, a further top up kit of these ingredients, a step by step recipe card and a discount card for purchases made at Rosheana’s stall.
