The newly-released movie version of Cats suffered another embarrassing moment when fans noticed Judi Dench’s hand was clearly visible in one scene.
Tom Hooper’s high-budget blockbuster, which was released last Friday, was panned by critics, with last-minute edits being made a day before the premiere.
And the latest faux pax to hit the movie saw Judi, 85, in character as Old Deuteronomy in one scene with her hand - complete with what appeared to be a wedding ring - clearly visible.
Eagle-eyed cinema-goers were quick to notice the mistake, with Variety author Jenelle Riley writing: ‘This isn’t a joke: CATS was rushed into theatres before being finished so a new version is being sent to theatres with updated effects.’ ‘How do you know if you have the old version? Look for Judi Dench’s human hand, wedding ring and all.’ Judi was married to fellow actor Michael Williams until his death in 2001 and she is now in a relationship with David Mills, a conservationist.
The news of the embarrassing error comes after it emerged that the film has been re-edited by Hooper and reissued to cinemas. The film is reportedly being updated because Hooper didn’t finish working on it until the day before the world premiere, which was last Monday.

In an exchange on Twitter on Friday, it was revealed that the following note was sent to theaters playing the film: ‘DCDC and Deluxe-Technicolour will be sending updated FTR-20 SMPTE DCPs of Cats which will include some improved visual effects.
The runtime is unchanged.’ While the actual content of the movie will most likely remain unchanged, some visual effects may have been fixed or improved by the director and his post production team. While Hooper won an Academy Award for directing the 2010 gem The King’s Speech, which also won Best Picture that year, this film, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway musical, is suffering with a terrible 19 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
