Popular songstress Chandani Hettiarachchi has just released her newest song ‘Ma Oba Wenuwen’ after lapse of 14 years. “After 2007 this is my latest single with a new concept,  which has been a lifelong dream of mine to have song with  piano and orchestral music. The song is composed and lyrics written by talented musician Kuma D Silva,” she said. “I am grateful to my very good friend Anu Gunasekera from Brisbane, Australia. She has been helping me so much with the music video production, in getting the location which belongs to Brother Charles. If my friend Anu was not here I wouldn’t have done this project. Also I would like to thank Jayasanka Gamage the audio engineer from Pearlbay Studio. He did a brilliant job with the recording and mixing and mastering,” said Chandani.

“We had a great time and an unforgettable experience with the shoot because it was done in the cold climes of Mee-mure. Not forgetting so many encounters with leeches. I’d like to thank  a few people around me who were there for the shoot.  Johnny Selvam, Dinu Sanjuna, Niroshan Perera, Harsha Samaraweera, Charles Kelart and my daughter Jacqualine Hettiarachchi. It’s not a big production but it is my duty to thank all these people and specially the video crew from Studio U, the Director Duminda M Ahangama,  Cameraman Jeewantha Madushan and Assistant Director Dinesh Pushpakumara. All these people  took a tremendous effort to make it a beautiful project.”

“It’s been 15 to 17 years for the band C&C and we’ve had a few changes over the years with the members and yet somehow we have managed to sustain and have even managed to survive through the current pandemic. And I’m so happy and blessed, that we got some unexpected tours to Australia which was organised by Sahan Weerasekera and the U.S.A. tour organised by Thusitha De Silva, within a short period of time. We now have a very dynamic and talented line up , Vasantha Fernando on lead guitar, Chaminda Hemaratne (my husband) on keys, Johnny Selvam on back up keys and vocals, Dilhan Wisidagama on drums, Danny Selvam on bass and Jacqualine Hettiarachchi (my daughter) on vocals.” I’d like to specially thank Mr. Udaya who was the Marketing Director at Wonder Hotel Colombo for giving the band to start entertainment during the first pandemic wave. And afterwards they even gave the opportunity for many other bands as well.

We see foreign singers performing here, when there is so many talented singers in Sri Lanka why do we need to bring down people from overseas... specially at a time like this. Other hotels also should help out local musicians. We did a song for the pandemic situation called “Forgive us” composed by Chaminda Hemaratne and written by Ven. Dr. Delduwe Gnanasumana Thera. Musicians who took part in it were  legends such as Geoffery Fernando, Russel Fernando, Donald Peiris, Benjy Ranabahu, Bonnie,  Rajitha and many more including a special lady Chammi N. Gunaweera. I am also grateful to all those have helped me in this music journey.

“And in conclusion on this women’s day I’d like share a few thoughts with the rest of you ladies out there. Firstly , Happy Women’s day to all of you.  Make sure you work hard for all your dreams and goals and put in a lot of effort to all that hard work and you will definitely reach your destination,” said Chandani.
