A fun fact about these jars is that the closed terrarium provides a miniature landscape that generates its own rain cycle

In today's article we are taking a look at the mind blowing creations done by Dilhani Ranasinghe, the founder of ARBOR.

ARBOR provides a unique collection of handmade Botanical Terrarium jars. Having originated in Japan, Terrarium is a beautiful concept where a miniature garden is designed in the most elegant manner inside a glass covering. Even looking at the pictures provides a calming effect, so I can only imagine the tranquility that one will feel when they actually look at these during the stressful hours of their busy day.

The founder Dilhani is a learned businesswoman who boasts over 7 years of progressive experience in managing the supply chain for international trade and building pioneer customer relationships & long-term supplier partnerships in major companies in Sri Lanka. She has started her own business in December 2020 during the full swing of the Covid lockdown, by first making a miniature garden for herself first and finally ended up-with making this beautiful concept as her very own label. In February 2021 she launched the first stall at the CAN weekend market.

Speaking about her creation Dilhani elaborates “Terrariums looks great everywhere – be it on a coffee table, bed room, or an office desk. It adds an additional flair of sophistication to the surroundings and best suits Scandinavian, contemporary or modern styles. With a tinge of green from the terrarium, it succeeds in making your home look cosier and Happier.”

“It is more than just a terrariums, in each of these terrariums, no doubt small, one can find life and hope. It carries a story and your blessings for the recipient, making

it a sustainable gift for a birthday, house warming, anniversary or any special occasion” she adds.

Now if you’re wondering whether you have to constantly care for these plants by watering them or opening the jar to give the plants a continuous supply of air, well, you thought wrong!

A fun fact about these jars is that the closed terrarium provides a miniature landscape that generates its own rain cycle. This happens because moisture from both the soil and plants evaporates in the elevated temperatures inside the terrarium. This water vapour then condenses on the walls of the container, and eventually falls back to the plants and soil below. This contributes to creating an ideal environment for growing plants due to the constant supply of water, thereby preventing the plants from becoming over dry. In addition to this, the light that passes through the transparent material of the terrarium allows for the plants to photosynthesize, a very important aspect of plant growth.

So all you have to do is keep it in a comfortable space where it gets a daily dose of sunlight and experience the tranquil effect that it provides to your physical, mental and even emotional wellbeing.

As Dilhani rightly says “a terrarium is a good way to keep plants indoors with minimum care where it only needs light, air and love.”

Among their variety of products are the Terrarium Lampshade, Terrarium Designer Jar, Terrarium Pen Holder, Three set mini bottle and the Single Mini Bottle.
