Game Of Thrones’ final season got mixed reviews from critics and was widely lambasted by viewers and fans. Charles Dance joined the ranks of those disappointed fans when he said he would sign a petition calling for the entire final season of the HBO hit to be remade. The 73-year-old English actor weighed in on his former series in an interview with PopCulture.com published Monday.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister on Game Of Thrones, got the ball rolling last week when he said he ‘almost wanted to donate to that petition.’ The petition was launched last year and demands that the finale season be remade with 'competent writers.' It currently has more than 1.8 million signatures, with a goal of 3 million, though there’s almost no chance that HBO will remake any portion of the series.
Dance, who played Tywin Lannister, the patriarch of the Lannister family, revealed he hadn’t heard of the petition when asked about it, but he added, ‘Well if there was a petition, I would sign it.’ Dance admitted that he kept up with the series to the end, despite only lasting into season five.
‘I mean, I saw it. I continue to watch the whole series even after I’d been killed off in the lavatory,’ he said, laughing. ‘Because I just thought it’s a fantastic television show, you know? I was very lucky to be part of it. I loved it; there were storylines [where] I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people!
‘I know that the finale satisfied a lot of people. It also disappointed a lot of people, and I’m afraid I am in the latter camp,’ he said. Dance had kind words for the showrunners and writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, but he was disappointed.
