Giving from The Heart

Genuine generosity and giving unconditionally always comes from the heart, especially when there is no publicity attached to it to inform the world of the great deed done.

The current pandemic has caused a lot of chaos in peoples’ lives.  Treating the virus as if it is the plague and considering it a social stigma has led to many problems. In the recent cluster a woman infected with this virus was in great despair.  To add to her misery her daughter too contracted the virus. The daughter, a teenager, had gone to school not knowing that she had caught the virus. Once it was discovered that she had the virus, her contacts, the entire class and class teacher, had to be quarantined. The anxiety of the parents having to send their young daughters, unaccompanied, to a quarantine centre was untold. Understanding their anxiety, an officer of the Forces had approached the owner of a hotel close to the area and inquired  whether the Hotel would quarantine the students and the teacher at a nominal cost. The owner and the management of this hotel chain agreed to accommodate this group at no cost, by providing both food and accommodation free of charge.

When I heard of this, my faith in humanity was restored; to think that there are still people amongst us not wanting to make a profit out of this crisis but ready and willing to be helpful and generous.

An astute retired professional who was also there when this story was told had this to say:  “To meet the challenges we are facing as a nation, it is time for the corporate sector to put profit aside and serve the nation with their heart. The need of the hour is for the corporate sector to place the country first and to rise and serve the nation.”

I do wish more of the private sector that has reaped great profits in the past years step up to give generously to help the government eradicate this pandemic.
