Hard Times and Randy Dandy

Needless to say. We all know the past four years have been horrid. Everybody has lost their mojo and are feeling down in the dumps as everything only seems to be getting worse. Fortunately, the cooking gas situation has improved which certainly has lighted most peoples’ fire as well as eased their lives.  Hopefully, the fuel pass system will take off. It is best to take one day at a time.

The wedding scene is back to normal.  Loads are celebrating their weddings in a lavish manner, inviting hundreds of people. This encourages the fuel profiteers as the wedding party needs to fuel all their vehicles to run around to get their work done and for the grand day. The majority invited actually curse and attend these tamashas as they feel obliged.  They too have to look for fuel to be at these arduous affairs, dressed in ill-fitting suits and the women gassed up to high heaven.  An occasion lucrative to both the beauty industry and the fuel profiteers. Covid has begun spreading stealthily owing to these huge gatherings.

In the meantime Randy, my dandy, extremely happy go lucky friend, who is single, is having the time of his life since the night club scene, plus other super musical shows are back on in full swing. Travelling in any form of transport is acceptable as long as one can reach the destination. Randy said it is best to move around solo because he can then flit from one group to another and then settle with the most fun crowd. An interesting fact Randy stated was that gone are the days where people are at tables in fancy hotels and nightclubs flaunting an array of imported alcohol acting as if God has only blessed them with good fortune while most knew how they obtained their lumps of money.  Instead, most have switched to local brands and some of them are more than decent. Thankfully, that snobbery has disappeared and people are buying local brands. Kudos to the local producers who have got their act to point. Randy also says some of the alcohol does not wake you up with a bad hangover. Randy and his like-minded people are having the best time of their lives devouring everything out there that life has to offer instead of staying home and moping.

Finally, the telephone calls the diaspora make to commiserate with you about the situation.  Hardly two words into the conversation they will tell you how they are also finding it difficult with the increasing prices etc., in their country of choice.  Explaining to them that our country is bankrupt owing billions to the world does not seem to make them understand that the situations are not comparable.  I so give up.
