Ludicrous Colombo

The phone was ringing furiously. It was Trixie who was fit to be tied. Her friend Braggatha Kolombage had called and asked her how she was managing after having lost her ears! Trixie was astounded and replied that her ears were in place and that she could hear clearly. Braggatha then said it was the past year she was referring to and not ears. Trixie’s reply was that she had been at home looking after herself, masked and being extra careful and since COVID-19 is an international crisis, we all have to learn to live the new normal. Braggatha then continued talking happily and Trixie was dumbfounded when Braggatha said she could not understand why the villages could not be locked down and Colombo allowed to carry on as normal. Trixie was gob smacked at this statement and had to patiently remind Braggatha that everybody was vulnerable to contracting the virus.  Braggatha had described to Trixie what she and her circle of friends were missing.  Trixie decided to listen thinking to herself that what she would be told could be her entertainment for that morning.

These are some of the issues our socialites are having.  Bobsy is terribly upset that she cannot get her stock of bubbly delivered home; what she is actually referring is to some inferior Prosecco, which, when she is guzzling it down, she convinces herself is the real McCoy. Popsy is having a fit that she cannot jet off on her annual European tour or any place overseas to check out the new collection of shoes; apparently when she goes into her walk-in closet she gets so depressed looking at her shoes and now outdated clothes that she has to swallow a Valium to calm herself down. Some others cannot believe that their lipsticks have begun to melt and become waxy, mascara dried and foundation cracking in the box and having to discard all of the stuff. Trixie had to cut the conversation when Braggatha started on how much they were missing their regular visits to the hairdressers. The wiser women in Colombo, Trixie observed, were selling whatever designer stuff they have, which have been snapped up by some of these vultures to offset their boredom.

As you know, such women do not know the meaning of giving, either charity or hope, to another in their lives.  They all have only selfish thoughts about themselves. It is incredibly sad to see them live in such an unreal world.

I explained to Trixie what TikTok was all about before forwarding to her a clip that the bored Colombo crowd had made in which they were showing their outfits and indulging in some bubbly. Trixie had almost done a double somersault when she saw the clip since she found it to be a gauche production and quite disturbing to watch these women trying to act like teenagers. Such is life I guess where nothing seems to affect some.

The restrictions have been removed. Let us hope that all of us behave and look after ourselves.  We all need to act responsibly to get rid of this virus. Hopefully, it will be controlled in order for all of us to get back to some sort of normal life.
