The past two years have not been favourable to many people, having lost jobs, taken salary cuts and other losses and reductions that affected their income. There was no choice in the matter. Whilst a number went into great depression and anxiety, a majority decided that they were not going down owing to the obligations that had to be met at the end of each month, such as housing loans or rents, monthly payments towards their leased vehicles, personal loans, settlement of credit cards etc.
Most ventured into their kitchen and decided to start up a business of producing something which either their grandmother had taught them, or they had tried and tested over the years, packaged it and sold it to the public. This was made easier once a tie up with one of the many delivery services was established. There were many who whipped up cakes, Middle Eastern food, a variety of party platters, complete meals and rice and curry. Some specialised in making dips that have now flooded the market and scones and clotted cream and a variety of cheeses and toppings. The choices of the things available currently are endless and if the consumers have money to spend many of these establishments of home produce will flourish. I have sampled some of these items that were gifted to me during the holiday season and, yes, most of them were delicious.
What is also nice is that all these people chose to put their hands into some project instead of deciding to be victims and being miserable. There are also a few women and men who operate personalised cab services in clean and sanitised vehicles for those who are wary of rushing around in a trishaw or public taxi service; they specialise in providing their services to known people, especially the elderly, picking and dropping them off and accompanying them, if requested.
When one is pushed to a corner it is quite amazing how creative people can become. Likewise, there are clients who appreciate and create a market for all these people who are trying extremely hard to make a living just to balance their monthly dues.
