Flashback: Olivia and John have been close friends since starring in the 1978 musical Grease
Olivia Newton-John has spoken about her unbreakable bond with her 'dear friend' John Travolta, more than four decades after they starred together in Grease. The 72-year-old revealed on Wednesday that it wasn't just their time on screen which helped form their friendship - it was also their shared experience with breast cancer.
John, 66, lost his wife, Kelly Preston, to the disease in July, and Olivia is now fighting it for a third time.
'You know, John and Kelly chose to keep her illness secret and private and I want to honour that and just say they are dear friends and she was a beautiful human,' the Australian singer-songwriter told ET Canada.'I've lost way too many friends to cancer and you know, I'm on that journey myself, so I'm powerfully driven to find kinder answers for treatments for cancer, prevention, and treatments.
'Olivia has partnered with Julien's Auctions - a world record-breaking auction house based in Culver City, California - to sell her personal memorabilia to raise money for the Olivia Newton-John Foundation.
The charitable organisation was founded in 2015 and focuses on the development of new and breakthrough cancer treatments.

Olivia and John have remained good friends since starring in the 1978 musical Grease.'We formed great bonds making that film, as you can imagine, and it's always amazing to me that every… it's 40 years now and every 10 years I thought… it's going to fade away now, but it just gets bigger and bigger and it seems to find a younger audience all the time. It's really quite amazing,' she said.
It comes after Olivia updated her fans earlier this month on her battle with state-four metastatic breast cancer. She said she was 'feeling great' and was enjoying self-isolation at her country estate in America during the COVID-19 pandemic.
'I feel great and I'm so grateful I'm able to be in the countryside,' she revealed on Channel Nine's Today show on October 8.
