Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday

Queen Elizabeth celebrated her official birthday earlier this month; she is the epitome of dignity,grace and authority. Our thoughts are with her more than ever this year, as she has had to cope with the loss of her husband, whose support was with her throughout their marriage, through both sunshine and storms. There are few who are aware of her wit and humour. I quote a few of both her wise and humorous sayings. ‘Let us not take ourselves too seriously. None of us has a monopoly on wisdom.’ 

‘We lost the American colonies because we lacked the statesmanship to know the right time and the manner of yielding what is impossible to keep’.When pelted with eggs by an anti monarchy demonstrator in New Zealand  ‘I myself prefer New Zealand eggs for breakfast’. 

‘Like all the best families,we have our share of eccentricies,of impetuous and wayward youngsters and of family disagreements’. Of the marriage of Prince Charles  to Camilla. ‘They have come through and I’m very proud and I wish them well.My son is home and dry with the woman he loves’.  When Princess Michael of Kent commented rudely on the Queens corgi’s, she retorted ‘They’re better behaved than she is’, ‘On Margaret Thatcher  ‘Mrs Thatcher never listens to a word I say!’
