Sapumal Foundation celebrated its 50th year on the 15th of December, and held an event in the style of Founder Harry Pieris’ Sunday Open House talks - where  Rohan de Soysa, Chairman of the Sapumal Foundation and  Udaya Hewawasam, Art Conservator spoke about the Foundation’s 50 years – Looking Back & Forward, moderated by Azara Jaleel, Editor-in-Chief of ARTRA Magazine.

Harry Pieris set up the Sapumal Foundation in 1974  at his home in Barnes Place, as a place to house the works of art of the '43 Group, which he had himself guided with unabated enthusiasm for most of the 50 years of its story.

Housing over 200 paintings and drawings, the Sapumal Foundation remains the only public space in Sri Lanka and in the world that houses the works of all 10 artists of Sri Lanka’s foremost modernist collective.
