Star Garments Group announces their partnership with Responsible Fashion Summit for their 6th edition, presented by JAAF / Sri Lanka Apparel on the 8th of November 2021 at Shangri La Hotel.

The main theme of the 6th edition of RFS is Circularity in Action, which is a trending need among apparel industry stakeholders as the global fashion industry aims to correct its path by reducing its negative impact on the environment. The panels developed for the 6th edition encourage an enriching discussion with key personalities across the industry and from around the world.

Star is Sri Lanka’s largest carbon-neutral entity and the world’s only apparel manufacturer to have all its facilities certified as carbon neutral. With a commitment to sustainable manufacturing, Star finds that its values are perfectly aligned with the Responsible Fashion Summit (RFS). RFS has continuously served as an essential thought leadership platform for showcasing ideas and innovations with potential for global impact in the fashion and apparel industry since 2018. It also serves as a forum for open dialogue between international and local industry leaders and experts.

Sri Lanka’s apparel supply chain has had a relatively cleaner image compared to others in the region. This is primarily driven by the vision of Sri Lanka apparel backed by key organisations in the sector, such as Star, who have driven the sustainable manufacturing agenda strongly for over a decade.

As a local industry leader, Star looks to work alongside Responsible Fashion Summit (RFS) to achieve its goals to bring about a change in consciousness and awareness in the industry through the discussion and implementation of key changes. These interactions have encouraged discussions that make the ideas relevant and adaptable.

When asked about Star’s partnership with Responsible Fashion Summit, Star’s Managing Director, Mr. A. Sukumaran said, “Star is continually looking at ways in which we can lead the way in ethical and sustainable manufacturing. The next step in this venture is committing towards a circular fashion economy that emphasises designing out waste. We believe that the Responsible Fashion Summit is a key platform to educate manufacturers across the globe on what more can be done by us as industries to preserve our planet and we are glad to partner in this venture.”

“We are pleased that Star has come on board to support this initiative which is one of its kind in Asia. The 6th edition of RFS aims to bring focus on current needs and relevant solutions. Each panel is designed to encourage dialogue and showcase Sri Lanka. There are so many important players in Sri Lanka and Star is a bright example.  We need important industry players to push this agenda on the global stage. I feel we are on our way.” Says Ajai Vir Singh, Founder- Responsible Fashion Summit.

The 6th edition of RFS will feature a series of panels with an impressive lineup of major names in the design and fashion industry. One important agenda point is the introduction of the Responsible Meter, which is a garment evaluation tool. The Summit will be hosted as a hybrid virtual event with a restricted physical audience, as per the current regulations. The event will also be live-streamed for a wider local and global audience.
