New images and songs from ABC's upcoming live broadcast of The Little Mermaid Live! were released Tuesday, ahead of next week's broadcast.
Among the new promotional shots put out include in-costume photos of Queen Latifah, who portrays Ursula, AuliʻiCravalho, who plays Ariel, Shaggy playing Sebastian, John Stamos in costume as Chef Louis, and Graham Phillips in the role of Prince Eric. Amber Riley will host the proceedings.
The network put out a series of clips featuring Cravalho, Phillips, Shaggy and Stamos hyping their upcoming turns in the live adaptation, which integrates music from the 1989 animated Disney film and the Broadway musical. I've been singing these songs since I was a little girl,' Cravalho said, 'and to get the chance to do it live in front of the whole world is a dream come true.'
In the clips, which integrated shots of rehearsals and interviews with the performers, Cravalho opened up about how she worked with legendary composer Alan Menken and a 45-piece orchestra in preparation for the musical showcase.
'Recording music for this live event has been awe-inspiring,' she said. 'The first song that I sang was Part of Your World and my first take went really, really well. I was like, "Oh, this feels really, really good," and I turned outside and there's Alan and he was just like "Yeah!" and I was like, "Thank God it, it actually worked out!". Shaggy said that 'being a part of this production has been absolutely magical,' while Phillips said that 'the music is phenomenal' and the 12 songs selected mark 'the best of the best.'
Queen Latifah spoke with Good Morning America Tuesday, where she opened up about the unique plans for the production.
