“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” This extremely popular Christmas song was written by Edward Pola and George Wyle in 1963. The song is a celebration and description of activities associated with the Christmas season, focusing primarily on get-togethers between friends and families. Among the activities included in the song is the telling of “scary ghost stories,” a Victorian Christmas tradition that maybe not happening anymore. It was first sung by Andy Williams and is loved by everyone to this day. Sadly, the song, as lovely as it is, does not brighten everyone this year as it used to due to COVID-19 affecting everybody in the four corners of the world. The virulent virus keeps getting worse and it has put a damper to everyone’s Christmas spirit. Everybody’s Christmas wish must be that the vaccine would work and that they would be able to get back to their normal lives, whatever it used to be.
Nevertheless, families got together at home for Christmas eve dinner and dawned Christmas watching the live streaming of Christmas mass on television. It is noteworthy that lots of people have been thinking of the less fortunate and doing great things to make the young ones happy, especially by being secret Santa and gifting necessities to needy kids to last them for a while. This pandemic has also brought lots of families closer and people have spent quality time together.
At the same time many have been financially hit and are in great trouble, especially the pretenders who are now thinking of rackets to keep themselves afloat. They do not have the giving spirit. Instead, all they seem to do is take from people in whatever way they can. Something that is truly disgusting. As the famous quote goes, ‘we cannot change the world unless we change ourselves.’
Merry Christmas everybody. May the peace and joy of Christmas be with you today and throughout the coming year.
