What made you start Haut Monde Event Management at a time when the world is under the COVID spell?

This decision I must say was one that never crossed my mind. I am a finance professional and have had a successful career in the finance industry for almost a decade. It’s actually one of my friends who encouraged me that I should pursue this path. I am very attentive to every minute detail; I often host private parties and have always been a bit towards achieving perfection! At Haut Monde Event Management we specialise in providing customised and curated luxury events that suit each brand and its goals.

What would you say is your biggest challenge in this industry?

With the ongoing pandemic; I personally think that people do not look into the nitty-gritty and pay enough attention to details.

What would you say are your thoughts about the event regulations?

As disheartening as it is; we are currently unable to do anything that we had planned at the moment. As a responsible citizen, I feel it’s the right thing to do, in order to contain the virus.

You are very much at every event in Colombo, what are your thoughts about society?

I have always been good with everyone and am thankful for the connections, I have made. There was a time that I was a people’s pleaser; since I was generous and deeply touched by the slightest things. I used to give those who wronged me, sometimes even more than five chances to correct themselves; but I am no longer that person, I must say. I treat you the way you treat me! That’s the golden rule that I abide by. Of course, I notice everything. Every movement, event action and reaction, but I maintain a blind eye and am cautious. I must also add that I have met some of the nicest and most genuine people in this Colombo society! Maybe, I’m one of the fortunate ones.

Do you feel brands are important in fashion?

It’s crucial to support local brands, just the way we patronise luxury international brands. I believe if it’s accentuated right, it can elevate your look to the next level!

How do you react to your negative/positive comments?

I listen to everyone and am open to constructive criticism; however, I only take what has to be taken. I am not the one to listen and tolerate continuous negativity; though positive vibes are always welcome!

Who has been your biggest support?

My mother!

How has your family supported you in this process?

They always have and initially, they were a bit sceptical but now they are embracing it! Of course, I must admit that my mother has always been there for me right from the beginning, encouraging me, supporting me and guiding me on to the right path of life and success.

How was your school life and what did you want to be when you were growing up?

Not too great; I was the least popular in school. I was basically an introvert and a nerd for which I was bullied. I wanted to be an Actor!

What do you think Sri Lankan youths are missing?

Proper guidance!

What has been your favourite travel destination and why?

Europe. I love Europe during fall. To walk on those cobblestoned roads and sip a nice hot chocolate during that time is the best feeling. Europe has a lot of historical significance and that continues to amaze me at all times.

What are your thoughts on friends and friendship?

It’s a give and take. You reap what you sow. I have been fortunate as mentioned above to be friends with some of the nicest people in Colombo. Sometimes it’s a bit of an effort with certain individuals but that fades off when you weigh the pluses with the minuses. Except for few unfortunate situations, I have been lucky being an only child, after my parents, it’s my friends that are most important to me.

You are also into hospitality and you have been working on a hotel Project for  a very long time, tell me when you hope to launch?

Yes, it’s been long overdue. It’s a 10 bedroomed luxury boutique hotel, equipped with two luxury suites that have hot tubs overlooking the beautiful Hikkaduwa Lake. It also houses a lovely infinity pool and a state of art Dutch colonial style lounging area and a restaurant. It will be launched soon, sooner than you think Danu!
