Aimed at strengthening ruling party’s administrative framework ahead of upcoming presidential poll
Reshuffle rumored to occur within the next two weeks
Speculation is rife within the political circles of an imminent cabinet reshuffle in the coming weeks, the Daily Mirror learns.
Highly placed political sources said that discussions regarding this move have already begun under the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, stirring anticipation and intrigue among political parties.
The potential reshuffle, rumoured to be scheduled within the next two weeks, is expected to realign ministerial positions within the government.
This manoeuvre is believed to be aimed at bolstering the ruling party’s administrative framework in preparation for the critical upcoming presidential poll.
Against the backdrop of the impending cabinet reshuffle, Sri Lanka finds itself immersed in a politically charged atmosphere, characterised by fervent manoeuvring and strategic alignments.
Meanwhile, informed sources have indicated that several members including former ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Sarath Fonseka, and Rajitha Senaratne are poised to align themselves with President Wickremesinghe.
Recently, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Rajitha Senaratne was observed engaging in a close conversation at a public event, where he expressed appreciation for the current government’s initiatives.
In addition, SJB Chairman MP Sarath Fonseka, who faced criticism from his party members following his recent parliamentary statement that implicitly criticised SJB leader Sajith Premadasa, is reportedly leaning towards supporting the President.
Moreover, SJB MP Patali Champika Ranawaka, who has maintained a neutral stance towards the current government’s initiatives, is also expected to join forces with President Wickremesinghe.
The official ceremony where these politicians are expected to join hands with President Wickremesinghe is scheduled to take place later this week.
