Disastrous situation in North, thousands displaced

More than 25,300 people in the Northern Province have been affected by rain and floods.   

Assistant Director, of the District Disaster Management Centre said the people in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts were the worst affected. He said 8,572 people in the Kilinochchi district, 6,904 people in the Mullaitivu District and 6,738 people in the Jaffna District have been displaced.  

The official said the displaced people were being shifted to safer locations and provided with urgent relief by the District Secretariats with the help of the police and the security forces.
