Headline inflation in Colombo district measured by Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) decelerated to 25.2 percent in May from 35.3 percent in April largely owing to higher base effects in last year.

The food inflation in May declined to 21.5 percent from the 30.6 percent in April while non-food inflation decreased to 27 percent from 37.6 percent.

The Central Bank expects inflation to ease to 4-6 percent by the end of this year.

However, the prices of consumer goods still remain largely elevated.
